Raja S. Mehdi, MD


Dr. Mehdi is a board-certified medical oncologist who genuinely cares about his patients. He has dedicated his career to developing more effective methods of treating cancer by focusing on the entire individual. Pairing state-of-the-art medical treatments with compassionate practice, Dr. Mehdi has brought a true comprehensive cancer care facility to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Having been ranked among America’s Top Oncologists, Dr. Mehdi continues to be a leader in advancing cancer care in Southern Nevada.

Prior to co-founding Hope Cancer Care of Nevada, Dr. Mehdi obtained his training and education from some of the world’s most renowned institutions. After graduating from the prestigious Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Mehdi had the honor of being appointed Chief Resident during his residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University at St. Vincent Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He then went on to practice for more than five years at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Dr. Mehdi is also board-certified in Internal Medicine and has completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Providence Cancer Institute in partnership with the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Dr. Mehdi is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

When away from the office, Dr. Mehdi enjoys spending time with his wife, who is also a respected health care attorney in Las Vegas, and their two beautiful children. They both work tirelessly in hopes that they can raise their children in an era where cancer care and research will help lessen the impact of cancer for families across the world.


Laxmi Iyer, MD, MPHLaxmi Iyer, MD, MPH, is a physician at the Hope Cancer Care Center of Nevada. She has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and cancer ailments. Dr. Iyer earned her medical degree from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College in Pune, India, which is one of premier medical institutions ranked among the top 10 medical schools in India. Further, she completed a Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston. During this time, she also researched in the Department of Cancer Genetics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, under the mentorship of Dr. Louise Strong. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland to complete a residency in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University/ Sinai Hospital, and then went on to the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center for a clinical fellowship in Hematology and Oncology. Her research interests during fellowship were in breast, colorectal and pancreatic cancers, but she enjoys all aspects of clinical hematology-oncology care. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

While not at work, she enjoys spending time and traveling with family. She is spiritual by nature and regularly practices yoga and transcendental meditation. She is also a fitness enthusiast and has an ardent interest in cooking and baking. Dr. Iyer is married, and her husband is a biomedical engineer working as a research professional at Stanford University.
